In 1994 a super group was formed from members of Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and Screaming Trees called Mad Season, and now two decades later, Mad Season Live At the Moore is available for streaming thanks to Qello.
Live at the Moore is the rare final live performance by Mad Season which was recorded April 29, 1995 at the Moore Theatre in Seattle, Washington. Originally released on VHS, the concert was released on DVD with the 2013 reissue and remastered version of Mad Season’s debut and only album Above.
For those who aren’t familiar with Qello, it is the world’s leading on-demand streaming service for full-length HD concert films and music documentaries with members in more than 100 countries. This all-in streaming service provides full access to all if it’s titles to its members through a paid subscription. Currently Qello hosts titles from Queen, Ray Charles and Bob Dylan, to Jimi Hendrix, Radiohead and Beyonce.
The band first broke up in 1996 due to conflicting schedules and vocalist Layne Staley’s substance ubuse problems. By 2002 both Staley and bassist John Baker Saunders had died of drug overdoses making the bands reunion impossible, until 2012 when the two surviving members Barrett Martin and Mike McCready joined Loaded vocalist Jeff Rouse and bassist Rick Friel during a Flight to Benefit show for the Chron’s & Colitis Foundation of America. The new version of the band performed “River of Deceipt”, the band’s stand out hit.
After teaming up with Mark Lanegan, Mad Season added completed versions of “Slip Away” and “Black Book of Fear”, to their reissue of Above, songs which were previously unfinished demos. McCready and Martin also teamed up with Duff McKagan of Guns N’ Roses, forming New Side Project to also work on unfinished Mad Trees demos.
Mad Season also released the unreleased song “Locomotive” in February of 2013, which was set for their never released second album.
