Fresh off the upcoming album Daggers comes this Ex Cops collaboration with psychedelic-indie-pop artist, Ariel Pink.
Daggers comes out October 28, but until then, we have the second single off the album. This is the second album for the Ex Cops, the project of duo Amalie Bruun and Brian Harding. The Brooklyn band has worked with producers Billy Corgan and Justin Raisen, who’ve also worked with Charli XCX and Sky Ferreiera. “Tragically Alright” came about after a trip to finish recording with Raisen, according to the band:
“One day Ariel Pink came by the studio. We ended up writing two songs with him, one of which is ‘Tragically Alright.’ We had quite a rough winter…so when we wrote ‘Tragically Alright,’ it became a bit of a reflection of our state of minds at that exact time. Ariel invited his friend Don Bolles (drummer of The Germs) to come by and say hi and not only did he stay the whole day, he ended up singing the Beach Boys-esque backing vocals to the track.”
“Tragically Alright” is a mellow number with airy, harmonic vocals. The melody smoothly rolls along, slightly melancholic, and rich with the beautifully hazy aesthetic (“narco-pop”) the duo is known for. It’s a song that’s the definition of chill. Take a listen below.
