Steven Adam Markowitz, known by his stage name Hoodie Allen, is an independent American Rapper. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in marketing and finance, he worked at Google as an AdWords associate. He spent his free time after office hours writing songs, answering fan emails, and scheduling concerts. Reflecting on his busy life, Allen told mashable, “I was moving so fast, and even while I was at Google there was so much going on that I felt like I was doing two full-time jobs.” When presented the opportunity to perform live shows, Allen left Google and pursued his musical career.

In 2012, Allen released “You Are Not Robot,” which sampled “I Am Not Robot” by Mariana and the Diamonds. His remix hit number one on the Hype Machine. His mixtape was titled, Pep Rally, because he said it captured the energy of the record. He self-financed music video for the albums leading single “You Are Not a Robot,” which helped the mixtape receive over 200,000 downloads. His follow up mixtape, Leap Year, lead Allen to a 15 date headlining tour across the nation.

In 2012, Allen announced his first EP titled, All American. The leading single on the EP was titled “No Interruption,” and was followed up by his famous single “No Faith in Brooklyn.” The EP reached number one on the iTunes album chart after it’s release, and hit number ten on the Billboard 200. His follow up EP was titled, Crew Cuts, and consists the hit singles “Cake Boy” and “Fame Is For Assholes.” Allen releases all of his mixtapes on his website for free, and announced the Crew Cuts mixtape has been downloaded over 80,000 times within the first day. Allen’s latest project is his debut album titled, People Keep Talking, and is set to be released October 14.
