Nick Cave began his musical career in The Birthday Party band. The group, which was formed in 1973, included Mick Harvey (guitar), Phill Calvert (drums), John Cochivera (guitar), Brett Purcell (bass), and Chris Coyne (saxophone). Tracy Pew replaced Purcell on bass. In 1977 the band changes its name to The Boys Next Door. Rowland S. Howard joined the band in 1978. The band broke up in 1984.
That year Neck Cave formed Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds along with Mick Harvey and Blixa Bargeld (guitar). Barry Adamson and Jim G. Thirlwell were also part of inital line up as was Hugo Race. The group toured, adopting the name Nick Cave and the Cavemen. They renamed themselves to Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds after Birthday Party’s final EP The Bad Seed. The group was originally gathered for Cave’s solo project, Man Or Myth?. Later the band used recording sessions from the then abandoned project to form From Her to Eternity. Race and Lane left the band and in 1985 the band released The Firstborn Is Dead after relocating the band to Germany. This was followed by Kicking Against the Pricks and Your Funeral… My Trial in 1986. Two years later they released Tender Prey. The band has written a plethora of albums since. The Good Son came out in 1990, Henry’s Dream in 1992, Let Love In in 1994, Murder Ballads in 1996, The Boatman’s Call in 1997, No More Shall We Part in 2001, Nocturama in 2003, Abattoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus in 2004, Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! in 2008 and their most recent released Push the Sky Away came out in 2013.
