Brit goth-pop band Esben and The Witch have released a music video for their latest haunting song, “Dig Your Fingers In.”
This latest single is from the upcoming album, A New Nature, which will come out early next month. This is their third album, and “Dig Your Fingers In” is the third song released this year. The first was “Butoh,” which came out in April, and the second was “Blood Teachings,” from this June.
Directed by Sim Warren, the video for the band’s latest song opens in a grassy field bathed in sunlight that could have come through an Instagram filter. (It’s really very pretty.)
A hooded figure comes onto the scene along with singer Rachel Davies’ haunting vocals. A softly plucked guitar is just about the only instrumental backing to Davies voice, and it all fits in with the strange, almost creepy journey the video takes us on. The hooded figure is periodically joined by the other members of the band, who touch but say nothing. Finally, Davies appears and pushes the figure forward- he takes off running just as the song picks up.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this song came out on a soundtrack for American Horror Story- it’s got the perfect balance of airy female vocals and melancholy tone set by the sparse instrumentals, that quickly turns into an echo-filled, throbbing cry towards the end. So dig in. You can find the video below.
