His new album, Hesitant Alien comes out September 30, and Way will kick off his first ever solo tour this October.
Hesitant Alien comes out by the end of this month, so Gerard Way is set to kick off his first solo tour in California. The tour will see all of October in the States before Way heads off to Australia by February of next year for the Soundwave Festival. This American-Australian leg follows Way’s successful festival performances in England. Rolling Stone describes what we’ve heard so far of Way’s new sound as “snappy, catchy songs delivered with arty panache.”
It’s only been a year since My Chemical Romance split, so it’s great to see Way is moving on and putting out new music. It’s certainly different from his MCR days, with Way himself describing this album’s inspiration as “Brit-pop poets.” Even the video for “No Shows” (which you can check out below) is rather Brit/80’s/glam rock style- it opens with new age folk that could have stepped out of an old Star Trek episode announcing Gerard Way’s “intergalactic television debut.”
It’ll be exciting to see where Way goes from here. If they follow the trend, the upcoming tour and festival appearances will be crazy fun in typical Gerard Way style. Some things don’t change.
