Herbert Stevens IV, better known by his stage name Ab Soul, is an American hip hop recording artist from Carson, California. In 1007, he signed to record label Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE). After signing, he formed the West Coast hip hop group Black Hippy with Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, and Schoolboy Q. He is best known for his introspective lyrics and his three independent albums under TDE.
In 2009, Stevens released his mixtape, Longterm. The mixtape was the beginning of Steven’s “Longterm” project.Later in 2011, he released his debut album titled, Longterm Mentality. It was released through Top Dawg Entertainment. The album peaked at number 73 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. In 2012, he released, Control System. The album sold approximately 5,300 units in a week. The album debuted at number 83 on the Billboard 200, and appeared on many other Billboard charts as well.
Stevens most recent release is, These Days…, which was released in June of this year. He released a music video for his single titled “Closure” a week before the albums release. The album reached number 11 on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling nearly 22,000 copies in the US it’s first week.
