Thomas Pentz, known by his stage name, Diplo, is an American DJ, music producer, rapper, and songwriter based in Los Angeles, California. He founded and manages the record company Mad Decent. He also co-founded the non-profit organization Heaps Decent. Pentz is also the co-creator and lead member of the electronic dancehall music project, Major Lazer.
In 2013, Pentz released his EP Revolution, which debuted at number 68 on the Billboard 200. During his rise to fame, Pentz worked with British musician M.I.A., who is partially credited with giving him exposure in his early days. Pentz has worked on production and mixtape projects with many notable pop artist including, Britney Spears, Beyonce, No Doubt, Justin Bieber, Usher, Snoop Lion, and G-Dragon.
Pentz most recent album release as Diplo is, Riddimentary, which was released in 2011. The album is focused around a reggae sound. PitchFork Magazine states that Riddimentary, “isn’t a defining work of genre exhumation or anything; if you love reggae, you might have a decent chunk of this mix in your iTunes…It works as a warm, sustained mood-piece and a serious demonstration that Diplo knows what he’s talking about when it comes to this reggae thing.”
