GWAR Unveils New Vocalist Character Blothar Played by Michael Bishop

The fifth-annual metal festival GWAR-B-Q took place this past weekend. Late GWAR frontman, Dave ‘Oderus Urungus’ Brockie was honored in a viking funeral that featured a speech from Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe and an appearance from Dead Kennedy’s Jello Biafra as his costume burned aboard a ship.

Among the lineup, Hatebreed, the Misfits, Body Count, Goatwhore and Revocation put on rocking performances enjoyed by festival-goers eating BBQ snacks and drinking GWAR beer. They closed out the festival taking the stage and introducing new front-creature by the name of Blothar. Blothar, aka the original Beefcake the Mighty bassist member, Michael Bishop, assumed a new role and took the place of Oderus Urungus as lead vocalist for the alien band in an hour-long set.

Cheers of “Oderus! Oderus!” and “Let Us Slay!” welcomed the new alien member and the rest of GWAR to the stage for the final performance of the Gwar-B-Q. Honoring the late member by delivering a wild performance in his stead, the new character of Blothar proved GWAR will continue rocking in Brockie’s memory and on their newly announced fall tour.
