Death to All, Obituary, Massacre 11/16 @ DNA Lounge

Metal icons and pioneers Death to All join us in November with support from Obituary and Massacre. Initially formed in 1983 in Orlando, the band Death split up following the death of vocalist, guitarist, and founder, Chuck Schuldiner, who died of brain cancer in late 2001 at the age of 33. This tour is comprised of the various musicians once members of the band, as a tribute to Chuck and Death’s legacy under the name Death to All. Once Death signed to Bay Area label Combat Records, Schuldiner decided to relocate out west to San Francisco, and left his bandmates at the time in Florida, reforming the band in San Francisco. They released Scream Bloody Gore in 1987, which featured gore-focused lyrics and quick-tempo riffs. Following this release, Chuck returned to Florida, once again reforming the band lineup before embarking on Death’s first tour. By the release of their third album Spritual Healing in 1990, Death’s sound began to transform with less gore-centric vocals, in addition to showcasing slower rhythms and tempos. With each subsequent album, Death continually redefined their sound, continually shuffling members such as Sean Reinert, Andy LaRocque, Steve DiGiorgio, and Bobby Koelble. The final lineup consisted of Chuck on vocals and guitar, Shannon Hamm on guitar, Scott Clendenin on bass, and Richard Christy on Drums. With nearly two decades of activity and with seven albums under their belt, Death left quite a legacy in the metal world. Fans of Carcass and Morbid Angel have probably heard fragments of Death in their material.

Obituary, once under the name Executioner, and Xecutioner, was formed in Tampa, Florida in 1984 and currently features John Tardy on vocals, Trever Peres on guitar, Donald Tardy on drums, and Terry Butler on bass. Following extensive touring, the band went on hiatus in 1997 and its members each pursued different side projects before reuniting for their 2005 album Frozen in Time. Their most recent album was funded entirely via Kickstarter, as the band wanted to release this album independently.

Massacre formed in 1984 and currently consists of Ed Webb on vocals, Rick Rozz on guitar, Terry Butler on bass, and Mike Mazzonetto on drums. This on again-off again band is known for its intensely infectious riffs and aggressive vocals on their 1991 album From Beyond, which featured Kam Lee and Rick Rozz, who both of which had been been part of pre-Death band, Mantis, with Chuck Schuldiner. Their most recent album back from was released this year via EMI records.

Metalheads, unite! This show is not one to miss- when will we get another chance to see these iconic metal bands together? This is the closest we’ll ever get to seeing Death live, so make sure to come out!
