First Aid Kit 11/13 @ Fox Theatre

Swedish folk duo First Aid Kit returns to the Bay Area in November. Known for their stunning vocal harmonizing and country-inpsired melodies, sisters Johanna and Klara grew up in a suburb just outside Stockholm and began songwriting in their teens. They gained notoriety for their cover of Fleet Foxs’ song Tiger Mountain Peasant Song in 2008, and in 2010 they released their debut album The Big Black & The Blue via London-based Witchita records, which featured such tracks as I Met Up With The King and Ghosttown. Their 2012 album The Lion’s Roar that followed reached #1 in Sweden and #3 in Norway, while also reaching #12 on Billboard’s Top Independent Albums of 2012. The Lion’s Roar also won First Aid Kit Best Nordic album of the year as well as four Swedish Grammies in 2012, including Artist of the Year and Album of the Year. Their most recent album Stay Gold was released this past June via Columbia records and immediately soared to #1 in both Sweden and Norway. Their track Silver Lining features their haunting (yet moving) vocals, bluegrassy guitars, and entrancing strings that tie it all together.

First Aid Kit have moreover collaborated and have strong friendships with Connor Oberst, Bright Eyes, and Jack White. Although their sound is quite unique, fans of Eisley and Joanna Newsome are recommended to give First Aid Kit a listen- even if just for the sisters’ intertwined vocals alone.
