Kindness is one hell of a magician, we must say. Taking perfect Robyn & Royksopp’s track ‘Monument‘, and making it… slightly more perfect.
Adam Bainbridge (real name), returning to the spotlight with his second LP ‘Otherness‘, yet-to-be-released October 13 in the UK and October 14 in the U.S., is reminding of himself once again. After releasing an album opener ‘World Restart‘ featuring Kelela and Ade, Kindness is back again with the remix of Robyn & Royksopp’s track ‘Monument’ from their recent mini-album collaboration ‘Do It Again‘.
Smoothing the edges, cutting out a bit of excessive saturation, and even renaming the song to ‘A Monument To Everything’, the track appears as a new, purer and more gentle version of Scandinavian synth pop stars’ collaboration. And a voice of South African singer\performance poet Busiswa definitely revives the vocal part. The magic here is all about improving the parts of the song you never thought of as monotonous or even annoying. Because now the track really feels like flawless.

“It’s been a pleasure seeing how “Monument” started stretching its legs over time: from 5 to 7 to 12 minutes at one point,” said Bainbridge. “When Robyn and I spoke about reworking the song, it was already so right, so hauntingly gossamer, that it seemed it could only be remixed by taking away—stripping things back to the core of its groove. I’m very happy to have Busiswa on this (even slightly slower) version of “Monument,” making a deeper connection with the Kwaito shuffle I thought was lurking somewhere in the heart of the track. Robyn herself is just as satisfied with how it turned out: “I played “Monument” to Adam a long time ago way before it was finished so he’s heard it grow and when he said he’d like to remix it I knew he was going to make something special,” said Swedish pop star. “He brought the song to a new place, his place. It´s a place that I love. Busiswa sounds so good on it too, I’m happy to have another girl on there.”
