Tears for Fears are an English new wave band that ddormed in 1981 by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith. It was formed due to the break up of their first band. They were associated with the new wave synthesizer bands of the early 1980s but later branched out into mainstream rock and pop, which lead to international success. With large popularity in the US, they were featured on MTVs Second British Invasion of the US.
Tears for Fears debut album, The Hurting, went platinum and reached number one on the UK Albums Chart. Their follow up albums, Songs from the Big Chair, reached number one on the US Billboard 200, and achieved multi=platinum status in the UK and the US. Their second album consisted of two of their hottest singles “Shout” and “Everybody Wants to Rule the World.” Both reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and they later won the Brit Award for Best British Single in 1986.
After the release of their third platinum album, The Seeds of Love, the group split. The duo reformed in 2000, and released their album, Everybody Loves a Happy Ending, in 2004. As of 2013, the two are working on their seventh album. To date, Tears for Fears have sold over 30 million albums worldwide, 8 million which have been sold in the U.
