As guests on Australia’s ‘Like A Version’ radio show, the Brits showcased a mash-up of the ’60s and your childhood. Even Tom Meighan, lead vocalist for the band, asks “How dare we even attempt such a thing?…We must be insane.”
Insane, yes. But not at all in a bad way.
The song starts out clean (as all good acoustic performances do), with a definite Beach Boys vibe. It’s mellow and chill, and when Meighan starts singing you honestly wouldn’t think it was the kid’s show theme song until his sultry voice croons, “show me how to get to Sesame Street.”
From there, the instrumentals begin to build up, and those famous ’60s harmonizations start kicking in. It’s all “Good Vibrations” from there, with a blend of vocals and instruments that creates a rich, full sound even in the tiny studio. It’s all definitely Kasabian, with their Brit-rock flare, but the mashup pays due tribute to the iconic Boys. At the end of this beachy little musical romp through Sesame Street, the performance concludes with some seriously impressive whistling and lots of smiles- as anything that combines Sesame Street and The Beach Boys should do.
Kasabian is set to release their new album in October of this year- and while it most likely won’t have anything quite like this on it, this performance is an excellent portrait of how easygoing, creative, and talented the band is.
