Digitalism is an electronic duo from Hamburg, Germany comprised of Jens Moelle and Ismail Tüfekçi who met at a record store. Officially formed in 2004, Digitalism signed to French house label Kitsuné (and Astralwerks here in North America), and has toured around the world playing all the major music festivals (Coachella, Ultra, SXSW).
They emerged on the scene with their 2007 debut album Idealism featuring dance tracks such as Idealistic (which reached #6 on Billboard’s Top Electronic Albums of 2007), Pogo (which has been featured in multiple video game soundtracks), Anything New, and I and I want. Pioneers to the electrorock movement, this cutting edge album was one of the first to blend these two genres. Their second album titled I Love You Dude was released in 2011 via Cooperative Music and was a bit more sugary than the previous album. Featuring such Summer anthems as Blitz and 2 Hearts, and the track Forrest Gump (co-written with Julian Casablancas from The Strokes), this album was a bit more main-stream and tangible to multiple audiences than the former. In the Summer of 2013, they released their Lift EP via Kitsuné, where they collaborated with The M Machine and Steve Duda.
Digitalism has moreover remixed tracks for Cut Copy, Presets, Daft Punk, and the White Stripes, which are often spun in clubs around the world. Fans of Soulwax, Does it Offend You, Yeah?, and Daft Punk are sure to enjoy the likes of Digitalism, assuming they haven’t already.
