Ray Lamontagne began performing in 1999 after quitting his job to pursue his career as a singer songwriter. He recorded a 10 song demo which Lamontagne send around to local music venues in his hometown in Maine. Lamontagne was hired as an opening act for John Gorka and Jonathan Edwards.
He recorded his first studio album, Trouble in 2004. Lamontagne played the Austin City Limits festival the following year. He also performed at the Bonnaroo Music Festival and released an EP of his Bonnaroo performance that same year. In 2006 he released his second studio album, Till the Sun Turns Black. After the record was released Lamontagne performed on The Tonight Show. Two years later he released Gossip in the Grain, his third album. His next album God Willin’ & the Creek Don’t Rise Lamontagne self-produced and released in 2010. That year he received a nomination for the Best Contemporary Folk Album at the Grammy Awards, which he won. In 2014 Lamontagne released his most recent album Supernova.
