Melvins’ drummer Dale Crover has just released a new solo song that features his former bandmate Kevin Rutmanis and Lou Barlow of Dinosaur Jr. and Sebadoh. The complete solo 7″ comes out at the end of this month.
After single releases from bandmate Buzz Osborne that focus on a more acoustic style, Crover’s “United Fruit” takes us back to good old school grunge rock. The A-side of Crover’s upcoming release is an angry, hard-hitting song with powerful instrumentals- no surprise there. “United Fruit” layers crooning vocals over guitars that sing and, of course, killer drums behind it all. The riffs in this song may be repetitive but they’re catchy and classic punk-rock. With Rutmanis and Barlow both on bass, “United Fruit” is deep and heavy, and a rocking August anthem.
This isn’t all from Crover this summer- the legendary drummer will also be replacing OFF! drummer Mario Rubalcaba for OFF’s August tour. The Melvins also have a new album out in October, Hold it In, featuring two new additions to the band.
