Relient K is embarking on tour in celebration of MMHMM’s 10 year anniversary. The tour will be supported by Blondefire and From Indian Lakes. Relient K is an American rock band that formed in 1998 in Ohio. The current members are Matt Thiessen, Brian Pittman, and Matt Hoopes. The bands name came from guitarist Hoopes’ car, a Plymouth Reliant K, with the spelling intentionally altered to avoid trademark infringement.
Relient K is associated with the contemporary christian music culture, including mostly the Christian rock and punk scene. The band received critical success with mainstream pop punk and alternative rock genres. Relient K incorporates piano and acoustics into their music. Throughout their music career, they have released a total of nine studio albums, seven EPs, two Christmas albums, and one collection of rarities. They have received multiple awards including a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rock Gospel Album, and two Dove Awards in 2013.
Relient K is best known for their two studio albums which peaked in the Top 15 of the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. Their peak started after they signed with Capitol Records and released Mmhmm. The album debuted at number 15 on the Billboard 200. In 2007, their fitfh album, Five Score and Seven Years Ago, brought them the most sucsess debuting at number six on the Billboard 200. The album sold over 60,000 records in the first week of sales. Relient K has sold over 2 million records, three of which have been certified gold by the RIAA. Their latest album, Collapsible Lung, was released in July of last year.
