Enjoyable to Electronic Fans, Cross My Heart
Cross My Heart Hope to Die recently released their newest EP, Vita E Morte. These four tracks must be some of the strangest compilation of sounds currently for sale on iTunes. The EP creates a creepy-feeling world that the listener becomes sucked into, and it isn’t necessarily the most pleasant feeling. One may be left feeling as though they want to crawl out of their skin at the end, especially with the track “Tears of God.” The album would work quite well as the soundtrack for FX’s show American Horror Story.
The track “Tears of God” is easily the creepiest tune on the EP, simply because of the vocal lines. The vocals repeat the band name over and over again, utilizing only minor notes. The song undeniably evokes shivers down one’s spine as a result of the eerie lyrics over top of a minor-key based melody.
Vita E Morte is noisy, layered and incredibly interesting. The vocals feel very dark, and evoke images of old, gothic Renaissance scenes done in black, white and red with candelabras and spiders. Many of the album’s tracks carry a stinging drum beat and an array of samples, just adding to the complexity of the EP.
For anyone interested in gaining a well-rounded knowledge of different sounds, music or genres, this group is definitely worth a listen. Cross My Heart has a truly distinct sound to experience, even if you aren’t interested in electronic music. The band’s album is still a multilayered and musically interesting piece of art.
