This week, Apple announced they are going to eliminate redundant positions at Beats Music and Beats Electronics, as the acquisition of Beats by Apple nears completion.
The story of the layoffs broke initially on the site 9to5 Mac, and was later picked up by the New York Post, among others.
The 9to5 Mac article states that this layoff will affect approximately 200 employees of Beats. The layoffs are reported to be primarily centered in areas of overlap between the corporations such as in the human resources and payroll departments.
The top tier of Beats, namely, co-founders Dr. Dre and legendary record producer Jimmy Iovine have committed themselves to work with Apple. And, Beats Chief Creative Officer Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, along with Beats Music CEO Ian Rogers will also accept positions within Apple, according to 9to5 Mac.
Apple issued the following statement about the merger and the operational changes.
“We’re excited to have the Beats team join Apple, and we have extended job offers to every Beats employee. Because of some overlap in our operations, some offers are for a limited period and we’ll work hard during this time to find as many of these Beats employees as we can another permanent job within Apple.”
In addition to the employee changes taking place, Apple has been working to bridge technical challenges that exist between their existing servers and technology with that of Beats to create a more compatible and user friendly streaming service in the future.
