The xx @ Guggenheim Museum 11/05

England’s indie pop act The xx started in 2005. Romey Madley-Croft and Oliver Sim played together, adding Baria Qureshi once they stayed playing shows. Jamie Smith was also added the following year. In 2009 the group released their self-titled debut xx. That summer the band toured extensively and played several festivals including Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits and Sasquatch. Qureshi left shortly thereafter. In 2010 xx won the Mercury Prize and the band played Bestival 2010. The next year they was nominated for “Best British Album”, “Best British Band” and “Best British Breakthrough” at the 2011 BRIT Awards. Their second album, Coexist, was released in 2012. The band again played Bestival and launched their first North American tour that fall. In 2013 the band held a three-day concert series called “Night+Day”. The shows were in Berlin, Lisbon and London and included other musical acts such as Mount Kimbe and Kindess. The xx was again nominated for the “Best British Group” award at the BRIT Awards. As of 2014 the band has begun work on a new album.
