UTOPIAfest Announces 2014 Lineup Including Cold War Kids, Warpaint and Father John Misty

Turns out Utopia’s in Texas. Can’t say we saw that coming. Jokes aside, looks like this little Southern town can lay solid claim to it’s name for a few days this September. The fifth annual UTOPIAfest is filling out nicely.

So what is UTOPIAfest? Well, it’s a three-day campout festival held in an almost unfairly scenic part of Texas. Unlike other blowouts, like neighboring Austin’s SXSW, UTOPIAfest is designed to be a little smaller, with only 2 stages and 2000 attendees. It aims for a more friendly, intimate atmosphere, instead of the post-apocalyptic wastelands that truly enormous fests occasionally turn into.

Musical acts also tend to be a little more low-key, but generally make up for with personality. Past headliners include New Orleans jam band Galactic, frenetic dance-punkers !!!, and to keep things surprising, Blackalicious. This year’s no different, though Utopia did find themselves some bona fide headline material in the form of indie stars Cold War Kids and Warpaint, as well as Wu-Tang founder GZA. Check out the full list below.
