LISTEN: Tweedy Releases New Track “Fake Fur Coat”

With his latest album set to release in September, Jeff Tweedy has released a new track. The song, “Fake Fur Coat,” was recently performed by Tweedy in addition to two other songs off the upcoming album, Sukierae on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Since releasing “Wait For Love,” Jeff Tweedy and drummer son Spencer have been gearing up for the September release of Tweedy’s latest album effort, and if “Fake Fur Coat” gives any indication, the album will drip with lush acoustic melodies and hauntingly evocative lyrics.

Rather than work on a completely solo effort, Tweedy has instead elected to bring his own flesh and blood on board, forming a new group to record the artist’s latest non-Wilco, non-Uncle Tupelo foray. While it doesn’t feature his son’s drumming ability, the song is everything Tweedy has become since his initial fascination with punk music, his distinctive vocals and vibrant guitar phrasings, offering shades of mid-period Dylan and Neil Young.

The album is due out on September 16th, and if you’re feeling a little curious, listen to the live recording of “Fake Fur Coat” below.
