David Nesta “Ziggy” Marley, is a Jamaican musician and leader of the band, Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers. He also writes and plays as a solo artist. Ziggy Marley is the oldest son of Rita Marley and reggae legend Bob Marley. Aside from making a name for himself in the music industry, Marley has made a name for himself as a philanthropist.
Marley founded Unlimited Resources Giving Enlightenment (URGE), which works to support education, health, and the environment, in efforts to improve the communities where children live and grow as they are our future’s unlimited resource. In 2007, Marley signed on as an official supporter of Little Kids Rock, a nonprofit organization that provides free musical instruments and free lessons to children in public schools throughout the United States. He has visited with children in the program and sits on the organization’s board of directors as an honorary member.
As a performer, Mary has won four Grammy Awards including Best Musical Album for Children, Best Reggae Album, and more. Some of his most popular singles include “True To Myself“, “Drive“, “People Get Ready“, and his hit single “Tomorrow People” from his album, Conscious Party, which reached number 39 on the Billboard Hot 100.
