Amalie Bruun and Brian Harding of Ex Cops have announced their new LP, Daggers, out October 28 on Downtown Records. The duo’s critically acclaimed debut album True Hallucinations was released back in 2013. The indie-pop first album has morphed into a more honest sound as Harding boldly stated for the press release, “We are not afraid of our favorite music anymore. It’s pop.”
The new album was executive produced by Billy Corgan and produced by Justin Raisen. Part of the creative process included Corgan taking the duo to their first wrestling match while they worked to provide form and texture to the new tracks in Chicago before heading west to LA to work with Raisen on collaborations with artists like Ariel Pink.
Along with the announcement of the new record comes Vogue’s premiere of the first single off the album entitled “Black Soap.” In a profile of the “impossibly cool duo” by Vogue, the top fashion mag describes the track as a “whirl of twang and haze and its lyrics are as catchy as its pattering drum beat.” The modernized 90s tune gives a hint of what’s to come off the fresh pair’s hotly anticipated sophomore album.
