Duo The Raveonettes both announced and released their new album, Pe’ahi, on July 22.
The album was produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen, who also produced Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming by M83. The record gets its name from a place on the north shore of Maui in Hawaii, and is a popular spot for surfers. Below is the opening track of Pe’ahi, “Endless Sleeper,” which was premiered this morning by Pitchfork.
The Raveonettes have this to say about the making of the album: “We made a conscious decision to not have any ballads on this album. We wanted it to roar like Pe’ahi. This album would only have been possible to make on the West Coast. Sun, surf, the Pacific, vast spaces yet a sense of isolation. No distractions. 12 hours working days for 4 months straight.”
In support of Pe’ahi, the duo will be touring in select U.S. cities this fall. To see the track listing for the new album and the tour dates, keep scrolling.
