The Libertines Working On A New Album

From highest highs to lowest lows. The Libertines never were much for the scenic route, but the volatile London rockers are ready to ride again. There’s a new album in the works, not much we can do but cross our fingers and wait.

The Libertines had their day in the sun in the early 2000’s. Frontmen James Doherty and Carl Barât brought their trademark crooned duets to stage alongside the likes of The Strokes and The Vines. Critical and commercial success were hampered, however, by fractures inside the band, in part caused by Doherty’s widely-publicized struggles with addiction. Their first seven-year run wound up producing only two full-length studio albums.

And now they’re aiming for number three. Murmurs of new material have been circulating since the band reformed back in 2010, and it looks like they may have had some truth to them. There’s nothing concrete yet, but both Doherty and Barât seem to agree that there’s some recording in the near future. Knock on wood.
