The Vivian Girls turned out to be the gift that keeps on giving. Always sad to see a good band go their separate ways, but each alum from the trio has laid down some excellent work on their own. Case in point: “Hangin On”, a new song from Cassie Ramone.
Well, we’ve already heard material from Katie Goodman and Ali Koehler (albeit before the split), so it makes sense that Ramone’s side projects are bearing fruit.
Vivian Girls fans should be more than happy with “Hangin On”. It’s got some of the same touchpoints; gentle vocals, and a hypnotic instrumental background. Add in a bit of country-flavored down-and-out spirit, and you’ve got yourself an interesting revival of the familiar sound. No idea if the rest of the album sounds similar, but we’d certainly be pleased to see a bit more of the same. The Time Has Come, Ramone’s appropriately named debut solo effort, is due out in August.
