“Left Hand Free”, the second track from Alt-J’s hotly anticipated second album This Is All Yours, is out. And it’s awesome.
Okay, get the immature jokes out of your systems, the SoundCloud commenters certainly did. Done? Great.
It’s possible for a successful new band to rest on their creative laurels. Especially when they release an absolute killer of a debut album, like Alt-J’s An Awesome Wave, which bagged them a Mercury Prize – pretty good for a first try. When they announced a sophomore release back in June, most people immediately expected early singles to echo hits like “Tessellate” or “Breezeblocks”, but, well, we can’t be right all the time.
“Left Hand Free” sounds nothing like anything off An Awesome Wave. It’s a light-hearted slice of blues rock, that sounds all the more novel for coming hard on the heels of first album release “Hunger of the Pine“, which was more standard Alt-J fare. Check the new stuff out here:
