Got A Girl, the band made up of Mary Elizebeth Winstead and Dan “The Automator” Nakamura have just released “There’s A Revolution”, the first song and sneak peak into their debut album, I Love You But I Must Drive Off This Cliff Now.
“There’s A Revolution”, is a bright, happy, 60’s throwback, modernized by Nakamura’s slick production, and instrument choices. Winstead’s soft vocal styling, highlights the uplifting, upbeat, summer dance and sing along song perfectly, making you feel like dropping the top of your convertible and taking a drive along the coast.
The album which is scheduled for release on July 22nd combines Nakamura’s influential production style as found on works by Kool Keith, Gorillaz, Deltron 3030, Lovage and Handsome Boy Modeling School, with Winstead’s sweetly detatched vocal work in films such as Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, The Spectacular Now and the upcoming Kill the Messenger.
The duo first met while working on 2010’s Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, and discovered that they were both highly influenced by 1960’s French pop, café jazz, girl group soul, lush arrangements and groovy eroticism. Not long after they began writing together, collaborating on lyrics, while learning more about each others’ creative strengths and interests.
Mxdwn first reported of the collaboration and upcoming album back in June with the release of their first song and video for “Did We Live Too Fast”.
