British singer, songwriter and producer Mozez, formerly of Zero 7, is releasing a new album in August and mxdwn has the honor of premiering his new track “Planets Remix.”
Mozez contributed to the first two Zero 7 albums, Simple Things and When It Falls, later forging a path as a solo artist. So far, he has released two solo records as well, So Still and Time Out.
The upcoming five-song Mozez EP is titled A Place Called Home, possibly because it is his most personal work to date. It will feature many of Mozez’s trademarks, including electronic beats, haunting vocals and an overall ambient sound. The album will be released August 12.
The artist says of the recording, “It’s about someone being at the crossroads and deciding about life, their destiny and what our existence is all about. It’s from a point in life where you look back on yourself, and value what you have achieved and not achieved. You sit back and analyze all these things, and think where you are within life.”
“Planets Remix” closes out the EP with a blend of electronic dance beats and soulful vocals in both the foreground and background. “Planets Remix” is backed by a compact snare and kick with bright and upbeat keys strung through out while vibrant guitar tones create a groovy sensation. It has an otherworldly feel, which could be how it earned its title. This unearthly song is filled with bursts of energy that keep the listener engaged. “Planets Remix” carries a deep, philosophical feeling that is driven forward by lyrics such as, “As we search for the answers we look to the stars and now we begin to realize our own significance.” This compelling and energetic track is just a taste of what’s to come on the rest of the EP next month.
