Texas indie band Spoon is comprised of Britt Daniel (vocals, guitar), Jim Eno (drums), Rob Pope (bass), Eric Harvey (keyboard, guitar, percussion, backing vocals) and Alex Fischel (keyboard, guitar). Daniel and Eno formed the band in 1993, aftering playing together in the band The Alien Beats.
A year after forming Spoon released Nefarious. The band was signed to Matador Records after releasing the EP. It was followed by their debut LP Telephono. The EP Soft Effects followed. Elektra Records signed Spoon in 1998 and they released A Series of Sneaks the same year. The band was dropped from Elektra Records, but two years later signed by Merge Records. In 2000 Spoon released Love Ways. The EP was followed by the LP Girls Can Tell. The band’s next full length,Kill the Moonlight, came out in 2002. Their next record Gimme Fiction was released in 2005 and the band began to experience some commercial success.
Their music was featured in the shows Shameless and The O.C. as well as the movie Stranger Than Fiction. In 2007 they released Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga and appeared on Saturday Night Live, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Last Call with Carson Daly and The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. This was followed by their record Transference in 2010. Since Spoon has been named “Top Overall Artist of the Decade” by Metacritic and recorded another album, entitled They Want My Soul, due to release summer of 2014.
