Balance and Composure s an American post-hardcore band from Pennsylvania. They formed in 2007, after the break up of two local bands. The band consists of Jon Simmons (vocalist/guitarist), Erik Petersen (guitar), Andy Slaymaker (guitar/vocals), Matt Warner (bass), and Bailey Van Ellis (drums).
Their music is compared to Circa Survive, Nirvana, and Sunny Day Real Estate. Their album, The Things We Think We’re Missing, reached number 51 on the Billboard 200, number 10 on the Independent Albums chart, number 13 on the Modern Rock/Alternative Albums chart, and number 16 on the Rock Albums chart.
The Things We Think We’re Missing was released in 2013, and is Balance and Composure’s latest album. In a review by Pitchfork, the album is identified as “a strong alt-rock album.” Pitchfork further states that “when such a thing [alt-rock] is about the least fashionable thing imaginable, and its practitioners and fans are largely ignored…[The album] carries on the tradition of alt-rock records that were crucial entry points for young listeners while being scoffed at by their older siblings.”
