Jack White’s June 26 show in Dublin featured a bluesy rock rendition of Kanye’s, “Black Skinhead.” The familiar rolling drum intro had the Irish crowd cheering before he moved into his own “High Ball Stepper,” then circled back to the cover. A fan video shows White’s blazing cover as the opener in the very first minutes of the set.
In a recent Rolling Stone interview, White praised Kanye’s “more punk, more in your face” recent performances, saying, “That might’ve been the greatest show I’ve seen in my life,” and discussing his almost-collaboration on the Yeezus album. While that may have fallen through, the mutual admiration between the music gods could foreshadow a potentially awesome collab in the future. White’s cover of “Black Skinhead” featured the harsh and powerful chords without any attempts at Ye’s lyrics. One can only imagine the tour de force should these two ever take the stage together.
White’s recently released album Lazaretto debuted at number one on Billboard charts this month. After Bonnaroo, this Dublin show featuring the Kills, and an awesome Metallica cover at Glastonbury, he’s hitting the European summer festival circuit before landing in North America for shows into late summer.
