Califone & S. Carey @ Johnny Brenda’s 9/8

Califone and S. Carey are headed out on a co-headlining tour this fall. The tour will hit 9 stops throughout September, including one in Philly. You can catch them when they arrive at Johnny Brenda’s on September 8th! Both acts have extensive tours of their own, which coincide with the brief co-headlining stint.

Califone released a new LP, Stitches, in September of last year. The 2013 release was the band’s 7th studio album to date. The experimental rock band hails from Chicago. But frontman Tim Rutili says, “This is the only record I’ve made in my life where none of the work was done in Chicago.” Instead the album was touched with notes of  the “dry landscapes and beaches and hills and shopping malls” of Southern California, Arizona, and Texas. The album also comes from a more personal place. Rutili says, “I tried to keep the songs visual and poetic, but it was more important to allow myself to feel and be vulnerable and not hide in the music. Instead of writing from my balls and brain, this time I wrote from the nerves, skin, and heart.” Take a listen for yourself when Califone arrives in Philly this September!

S. Carey, of Bon Iver fame, released his sophomore album, Range of Light, in April of this year. The meaning behind the album title? Carey says, “To me, [it] denotes the spectrum of light and dark a person can have in their life – peaks and valley, of happiness, sorrow, challenges and growth – for me most recently and more specifically: marriage, having a baby, and maintaining a spiritual connection to nature, place, friends and family as an adult.” And all of those emotions are evident on his latest release. Head to Johnny Brenda’s on 9/8 to hear for yourself!
