Be nice if it actually worked out like that. Santigold’s “Kicking Down Doors” now has an accompanying video featuring riot cops, molotovs, and some optimistic soccer.
You don’t make your way onto a Pepsi compilation album without turning a few heads. Santigold has been sensational ever since she appeared in 2007. Since then, she’s made a name for herself on the back of minimalistic, hard-hitting songs. “Kicking Down Doors” with its punchy percussion and aggressive lyrics, fits the bill neatly.
The song and the artist were good enough to make their way onto Pepsi Beats of the Beautiful Game, a compilation album released by (surprise) Pepsi to try and catch the wave of publicity brought on by the World Cup. Santigold is among vaunted company on the album, including Janelle Monáe and Timbaland. The newly-released music video depicts a Ukraine-style riot, which is eventually broken up by some impromptu soccer fun. No word on whether or not the recent Brazilian riots prompted by the World Cup were resolved this way, but it’s a nice thought.
