Tim McIlrath, Joe Principe, Brandon Barnes and Zach Blair make up the hardcore punk band Rise Against. Originally called “Transistor Revolt” with a different line up, the band began in 1999. Members of Baxter and 88 Fingers Louie joned up to form the new act and released Transistor Revolt, a demo EP. They signed to Fat Wreck Chords and in 2001 changed their name to “Rise Against” after undergoing some changes in lineup.
With their new name the band released Unraveling. In 2002 they began work on a second album after Revolutions per Minute, which was released the next year. Their third record, Siren Song of the Counter Culture, was recorded in 2003 after the band signed to DreamWorks Records. When the company was absorbed by Universal Music Group, Rise Against became part of Geffen Records, where they finally released Siren Song of the Counter Culture. In 2006 the band recorded and released The Sufferer & the Witness. That same year they released a DVD called Generation Lost in support of the release. Until the release of Appeal to Reason in 2008, the record was their most successful to date. They released a second DVD, Another Station: Another Mile, in 2010 before heading back into studio to record Endgame, their sixth studio album. In 2013 the band released Long Forgotten Songs: B-Sides & Covers (2000-2013), a complication album of covers and b-sides, began work on a seventh studio album. This past spring the band began releasing information and teasers about the record. Finally, via the band’s Facebook, it was revealed that the new album would be titled The Black Market and was given the release date of July 15th.
