On July 15th, London-based singer-songwriter Mozez, formerly with Zero 7, is set to release his ethereal EP entitled, A Place Called Home. This 5 song EP is his most personal release to date. But, it doesn’t stray from his trademarks of gospel influenced harmonies, electronic beats, and haunting vocals.
Each track on the recording highlights Mozez’s vocal talents, and his knack for singing his own harmonies in counterpoint to his distinctive lead vocals give the tracks a soulful atmosphere.
The title track (“A Place Called Home”) has an explosive chorus that seems to draw from the singer’s foundation – choir in a Jamaican Church – where he learned and started to develop his now-signature vocal style.
The following track, “Give In To Love” pairs warm acoustic guitar tones with an electronic dance beat. Next, there’s “Thankful” with its Motown inspired guitar. It showcases Mozez’s silky baritone vocals. The lyrics from “Thankful” are pleading with lines like “if there is love, then where did you put it? Cause I’ve been searching all my life and I still can’t find it. Maybe I’m going crazy?” Then the EP is rounded out by a track called “Misery” – a heart-wrenching ballad – and an electric dance track that is reminiscent of Mozez’s debut “Planet Remix” with Zero 7.
After establishing himself with the first 2 Zero 7 albums, Mozez launched his solo career. Now, he owns his own studio and record label, Numen Records. A Place Called Home is his third solo effort that follows the albums So Still and Time Out.
In a press release, Mozez said the album is about being at a “crossroads and deciding about life, their destiny and what our existence is all about.” He went on to say that the songs are written from the vantage point of reflecting back on your life, and analyzing the progression to where you are, while considering the possibilities of the future.
Right now, Mozez in the midst of planning a U.S. tour in support of this album. Also, he will spend the summer touring as a part of Nightmares on Wax.
