Phantogram formed in 2007 in New York. The pair met in junior high, but they wouldn’t start making music until both members returned home, unhappy with their career pursuits. They originally called themselves Charlie Everywhere, and didn’t change their name to Phantogram until 2009. The term “phantogram” relates to an optical illusion in which two-dimension objects appear to be three-dimensional. Later that year, Phantogram released their debut album Eyelid Movies. In 2011, they released their EP Nightlife, which featured their breakout hit “Don’t Move.” They would go on to collaborate with Big Boi, with plans to release an EP. In 2013, the duo released a self-titled EP, which featured 4 tracks. And finally, in 2014, they released their newest album, Voices.
