A.C. Newman, Blaine Thurier, Dan Bejar, John Collins, Kathryn Calder, Kurt Dahle, Neko Case and Todd Fancey make up the Canadian indie rock band The New Pornographers. The band has released six albums through either Mint or Matador Records: Mass Romantic (2000), Electric Version (2003), Twin Cinema (2005), Challengers (2007), Together (2010) and Brill Bruisers (2014).
On the topic of their newest release, lead man A.C. Newman said that it is “a celebration record. After periods of difficulty, I am at a place where nothing in my life is dragging me down and the music reflects that. We wanted Xanadu and we wanted Sigue Sigue Sputnik, which translated into sparklier and faster.” It was produced by Newman and Collins and recorded in New York as well as the band’s hometown of Vancouver. The title track “Brill Bruisers” was released prior to the album along with an interactive video designed by fellow Canadian and visual artist Chris Shier.
