“Madness! Dementia! Raw Terror!”…Or So They Say, But to Us it is Outright Awesome.
You can find this band in the music reference section somewhere between the psychedelic Bob Dylan and an upbeat Tom Waits. But nothing describes this band’s musical inclination better than their own words: “Harsh and heavy, Lecherous Gaze play destructively nasty music for fiendish people!”
Zeta Reticuli Blues is the full-length album that sprang from the EP On the Skids. It’s full of songs that can take you away to that basement you wish you had back in the ’70s. The Bay Area had a trip set for it when Lecherous Gaze spawned in 2010. The Oakland based psycho-rock group formed from some of the members of Annihilation Time.
Considering their first release On the Skids won recognition as one of the best Bay Area Metal bands of 2012, LG were already on a great start for a band in their local scene. With such an interesting sound describing their newest album is challenging. Imagine: blues rock mixed with a sublime degree of psychedelic musical slander. This is an album that only Lecherous Gaze can produce.
The intro song “End Rising” has no shame in its presence. Don’t bother with this album if you can’t hang with the hard hitting element of raw, rocking electric mayhem. No, it’s not the Muppet Band, for these lyrics and riffs are just a bit to spicy for such a family friendly first friend. Take a listen to “Dog”– “I must consume your flesh”– you’ll never hear Dr. Teeth belt out a line like that. “New Distortion” has an echoing background and what sort of approaching hell do we hear when new distortion opens up? An audio adventure to a surprise road trip.
“Baby Please Don’t Go” is actually a cover of Big Joe William’s 1935 hit. And man, it this one packing some electric heat. Fans of Red Fang, another mxdwn favorite, should definitely take a listen. Lecherous Gaze are an underground gem. A ridiculous, talented, entertaining gem and have every possibility of becoming an underground legend.
