Against Me! has released a new music video to compliment the song, “Drinking With the Jocks”. And, it’s intense. The song itself is a commentary on the nuances of contemporary gender politics, and challenges the stereotypical views on masculinity.
“Drinking With the Jocks” follows a series of videos – including “FUCKMYLIFE666” and “Black Me Out” – that expanded on the songs contained on the band’s album, Transgender Dysphoria Blues. Steak Mtn directed the video, which features the tongue-in-cheek song lyrics laid over a series of images.
Some of the images that rapidly fly by behind the lyrics on the fast-paced metal-punk song are: a decapitated skull bouncing up and down on a body, a hot dog placed next to a mallet, a sad white smiley-face with hair, and an open coffin. And, those are just the ones that standout easily.
Take a look:
Once again, Against Me! has created a defiant song and video that hit on the current events and ongoing national conversations about trans* issues. Lead singer Laura Jane Grace leaves the audience with this thought provoking statement toward the end of the song, “[t]here will always be a difference between me and you.” Yet, differences are what make the world interesting, even if the “jocks” in the video aspire to be homogeneous.
And, be sure to catch Against Me! on tour.
