Jack White’s Lazaretto debuted at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 this week, matching the success of his debut solo album, Blunderbuss. White’s teenage self would be proud: Lazaretto was partly inspired by plays and stories he wrote at age 19 and rediscovered years later in his attic.
White didn’t just hit No. 1, though — he also set a record. The Lazaretto Ultra LP (the vinyl version of the album that includes a number of intriguing extras like holograms and hidden messages) debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Vinyl Albums chart, and set a record for the most sales in a week for a vinyl album since 1991.
Billboard isn’t the first to make Lazaretto a record-holder, however. The album earned the title “World’s Fastest Released Record” when the first batch of seven-inch pressings were released only 3 hours, 55 minutes and 21 seconds after being recorded.
