The Libertines, an English rock band, announces a fall 2014 tour. In addition to the announcement of a tour, the Libertines also confirmed that they would put out an album soon.
In an interview with The Daily Record, one of the co-frontman of the Libertines, Pete Doherty said, “A new record is exactly what we’re talking about, that’s the dream, really. Finish off all those ideas that we never completed back in the day, all those songs we never played for anyone else that have been floating around in the ether. We’re also wanting to try out a few new ideas so it wouldn’t just be old stuff. I don’t want to tempt fate but we both have the desire, so I think it will happen. It’s important to be honest and there’s still a lot we have to say. We’re still relevant.”
Before confirming an entire tour, the Libertines simply announced a reunion concert. The reunion concert is still set for July 5 at London’s Hyde Park.
After a four year hiatus, it seems that the band has been able to overcome the problems that initially drove them to break-up. It was known that co-founders Doherty and Carl Barat had a difficult relationship. In addition, Doherty had a terrible drug problem that eventually landed him in prison for six months after pleading guilty on charges of cocaine possession. Doherty did admit some of his motivation for the band reuniting is his current financial situation.
The first show of the tour starts in Glasgow, Scotland at the end of June. A complete list tour dates can be found below. Also, more information about the Libertines can be found here.
