Lykke Li’s latest album was released in May. I Never Learn is the Swedish singer/songwriter’s third album, and she heads out on a tour of North America in support of the release this summer/fall. She’ll head to the US on August 1st with a performance at Lollapalooza, but before that Lykke Li will appear at several European festivals in June and July. She’ll arrive in Philly at the beginning of October with a performance at Union Transfer on October 1st.
I Never Learn is Lykke Li’s third installment of her trilogy which began with 2008’s Youth Novels. Though her music was riveting and quickly spreading across the globe, it was perhaps Lykke Li’s live performance which drew the most amount of attention. TIME Magazine called her “a mystical, mesmerizing performer.” She managed to captivate audiences with her emotionally raw, yet simple set up. Each iteration of her trilogy has been met with critical acclaim. And this latest addition is no different.
Lykke Li announced her third album back in January stating that the trilogy chronicled “a woman in her twenties and her search for love and herself.” (Her second album, Wounded Rhymes, was released in 2011.) Li has described her latest work as a collection of “power ballads for the broken,” having been written as she was dealing with a difficult and emotional break up. The album’s lead single, “No Rest for the Wicked,” was released in March. In April, a video was released for the track, directed by Tarik Saleh.
