LISTEN: The Pretty Reckless Cover Oasis’ “Champagne Supernova”

Many readers will likely recognize “Champagne Supernova” as “that one song that pretentious musician jerk who hit on my girlfriend liked to play at parties”. Good news – The Pretty Reckless one-upped him. Check below for their fantastic cover of the Oasis classic.

Whoever would’ve thought that Taylor Momsen could step to Liam Gallagher so well. Granted, she didn’t spit beer on the audience, and she didn’t heckle her guitarist, but that’s really demanding an unhealthy level of authenticity. The cover came during a recent visit to Studio 1 by the Pretty Reckless, who dropped by before their upcoming appearances at the Download and Isle of Wight Festivals. The band is currently on the road after their sophomore album, Going to Hell.

“Champagne Supernova” isn’t exactly a natural fit for the Pretty Reckless, a band that a MxDwn reviewer once described as “the newest thing to hit the Nickelback market since, well, Nickleback”, but Momsen made it work, cranking out a solid, largely faithful cover. Listen through for a surprise sting from “Dear Prudence” buried in the middle of the song.
