DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist have announced a nationwide Fall 2014 tour. Tickets for the Renegades of Rhythm Nationwide tour go on sale Friday June 20.
The Renegades of Rhythm tour will serve as a celebration to the legacy of Hip-Hop vanguard and Universal Zulu Nation Founder, Afrika Bambaataa. The tour will only use vinyl from Bambaataa’s 40,000 plus collection. DJ Shadow commented on the vinyl collection stating, ““His collection includes not just Soul and Rap, but also Soca, Calypso, Dub, Salsa…it’s obvious that this music was important to him, and it’s reflected in his own music. For example, when the Soulsonic Force is singing an African chant, it actually comes from a Manu Dibango record. That’s when being a crate-digger comes in handy – you have to be able to pick up on the references and reiterate them.”
The tour will use six turntables and a large variety of visual effects put together by DJ Shadow and Ben Stokes. Fan can expect a mix of old-school with a very new flavor of sounds from the turntables. Bambaataa commented simply saying, “DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist are going to blow your funky mind.”
