Gwar is having its fifth annual GWAR B-Q, and few legends from GWAR’s past will be attendance for the all-day metal, meat, and general mayhem fest. Before the event commences, a memorial for the late Dave Brockie, who played as Oderus Ungerus with the band, will take place prior to the festivities.
Gearing up for its fifth consecutive year, the GWAR B-Q will take place at Hadad Water Park in the Richmond, Virginia area. The event promises the usual grotesque antics of GWAR’s live act, as well as food, drink, BBQ (of course), and bands like Bodycount, Hatebreed, and Goatwhore. And this time, a few characters from GWAR’s past will also play a part in GWAR’s performance, namely Slymenstra Hymen, Sexecutioner, and Sleazy P. Martini.
Prior to the events, a memorial for Dave Brockie will take place at Hadad’s Lake. Brockie passed away at the age of 50 on March 23rd of this year of an accidental heroine overdose.
The band has decided, in the spirit of celebrating life, that the GWAR B-Q will continue on after Brocki’s passing. A foundation has been started in Brockie’s name with the goal of providing financial support to artists who might not otherwise receive it.
GWAR will continue to perform, with Mike Bishop stepping in as the vocal lead.
