The Allman Brothers Band announced their 2014 tour dates. This tour will be their last ever as the band has decided to retire.
The Allman Brothers Band originally formed in 1969. The original members consisted guitarist Duane Allman, vocalist and songwriter Gregg Allman, guitarist and vocalist Dickey Betts, bassist Berry Oakley, drummer Butch Trucks, and drummer Jai Johanny “Jaimoe” Johanson. The band is known for incorporating elements of southern rock, blues, jazz, and country music.
Today’s band members include Gregg Allman, Butch Trucks, Jai Johanny “Jaimoe” Johanson, Warren Haynes, Marc Quinones, Oteil Burbridge, and Derek Trucks.
While the band admittedly endured many hardships, including excessive drug use, and the deaths of members Duane Allman and Berry Oakley, the band continued on and has been very successful. Allman Brothers Band has won multiple Grammy awards, including the Grammy for Lifetime Achievement in 2012. In 1995 the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Also throughout their career, the Allman Brothers Band has landed on many of Rolling Stone magazine’s “Greatest of All Time Lists”, including Duane Allman taking the number 9 spot for greatest guitarist of all time.
The band has produced a total of 18 albums and they played at the Beacon a total of 232 times since 1989.
