WHY? w/ Dessa @ Union Transfer 9/22

California band Why? is headed out on tour this fall. The tour kicks off in Detroit on September 18th and will arrive in Philly on the 22nd. You can catch Why? at Union Transfer on 9/22 along with opener Dessa.

The stagename Why? had actually been in use since 1997. It wasn’t until 2004 that Yoni Wolf brought together his brother Josiah Wolf, Doug McDiarmid, and Matt Meldon to form the band that would henceforth be known as Why? (Meldon would later leave the band). Why? released their debut album, Elephant Eyelash, in 2005. Since that debut album, Why? has gone on to release 3 more albums, and several EPs. In 2013, they released the Golden Tickets EP which was a “collection of personalized ‘theme songs’ for and about seven specific Why? fans.”

Attendees will certainly want to get to Union Transfer early to check out Dessa, aka Margret Wander. The Minnesota native is also a member of the hip hop collective Doomtree. Her most recent full-length release, Parts of Speech, provides a “heartbreaking lament to a disintegrating relationship” that purposely defies genre limitations and expectations. Catch her set this September when she opens for Why?
